Canvas Prints

We are just a few weeks away from releasing our canvas prints ordering option on our photo enlargements web store.

It is interesting that some (many?) people appear to be confused about the appropriateness of canvas prints for their particular image. Accordingly, here are a few notes/tips that may help clarify things.

The first thing to do is to understand a little bit about the nature of canvas as a medium. You can read a little bit about it here.

While there are in fact some classes of canvas that are quite smooth, canvas prints are generally best suited to 'softer' images, portraits, or 'dreamy' images that aren't trying to show off the finest of details ( how many satellite images do you think get printed on canvas ;-) ? ).

In general, images that have fine details (that you want to emphasize/enhance) are best printed on the glossy class of papers (i.e. high-gloss, semi-gloss, satin, pearl finishes) or ultra-smooth matte/fine art papers.

Cheers
